Energy field which prevents time from passing inside the field walls; no time passes, nobody gets hurt. (Read the full article)

"The idea of an energy field that stops the flow of time inside it goes at *least* as far back as Robert Heinlein's novel "Beyond This Horizon" (1942), in which a man was kept unchanging in a "stasis field" for several centuries. It was even described as having a mirrored surface, just like Niven's."
