Excellent early shot at the transporter beam of Star Trek fame, tested in the story by out-of-work boxer Slugger Martin. He's been hired off a park bench by ol' Doc Murtha. Teleportation is, of course, a favorite of sci-fi writers; see the earlier Vibra-Transmitter (1933) and the more recent stepping disks (1970) from Niven's Ringworld.
