Comments on Amnesia Drugs: Bad Memories Blocked
Researchers may have found a way to block or even delete bad, unpleasant memories. Imagine the possibilities. (Read
the complete story)
"I just found a fun site that was set up for the Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind move. Read about the process at Lacuna, Inc."
(Bill Christensen 7/1/2007 10:38:37 PM) |
"Gee, if I were to take this drug, could I then forget the past 6 years of the Bush horror show? Maybe the whole country should take it."
(Sue Brown 7/3/2007 7:18:29 AM) |
"I would like to be a candiate for this procedure. I have a past of sexual abuse that I would like to forget. I can't get on with my life always reliving the past."
(G Martin 7/3/2007 3:36:34 PM) |
"I know just what to call this drug: Eloisium--named for the mindless future creatures from Jules Verne's "The Time Machine.""
(Marshall 7/3/2007 7:21:17 PM) |
"where can i get this drug?"
(anthony lopez 7/3/2007 7:47:16 PM) |
"I wonder if you could use this drug to block yur memory of drug or alcohol abuse?"
( 7/3/2007 7:54:05 PM) |
"I don't like this development, this has potential seriously negative uses. Has anyone seen The Island? Control over ones memories is what permits people to be controlled, obliterating memories is a bad idea, even tramatic ones, and drugs that erase memories can be seen as a form of mind control over a individual. This kind of medication is what makes us vunerable to being controlled or manipulated by individuals. We have memories becuase we need them, I can see and understand the clinical applications for this, but at the same time, this should not be seen as 'great, lets forget everything' at the same time. Take everything with caution..."
(Crimsonryu21 7/3/2007 7:58:41 PM) |
"Loved the Vulcan Mind Meld shot!"
( 7/3/2007 8:09:23 PM) |
"It sound great medecine. For those whom being abused such as an adult or kid. This could be anybody, the trauma they're living every single day.WAKE UP AMERICA."
(carpio 7/3/2007 8:23:19 PM) |
"I think this is a scary thing. I mean used in the right way it sounds like it could do miracles for people who have gone though traumatic experiences, but what if it gets into the wrong hands. I mean messing with peoples minds is a scary thing. Who knows what could happen if this fells in the wrong hands? These are the kinds of things that bring horror stories to life. I have to agree with Crimsonryu21. This could be a dangerous thing."
(Megan T 7/3/2007 8:31:33 PM) |
"It could be a dangerous drug if used bad , however if used properly it could help a lot of people who are depressed move on with their lives ."
(J Man 7/3/2007 9:09:15 PM) |
"The whole world could use this to erase the last eight years of George Bush."
(Lee 7/3/2007 9:13:33 PM) |
"almost every good deed rarely goes unturned. it takes one doctor to sell to one person for profit or someone to steal information on how to make it (like our sacred health care records that is protected by law?) this drug should be adminstired in very rare and extreme occassions but its only a matter of time before its abused. dont get me wrong im not a pessimist(spelling) but isnt it in some of our human nature to use things like this for personal advantage. all this drugs does is make people prone to being irresponsible. I UNDERSTAND there are some people out there the disperatly need something like this which is a large but select percentage. this releasing into general population and dont tell me it wont you cant guarentee anything in our modern society, it will allow people to commit mistakes and forget, maybe get it on the black market, kill someone and take it and what do u you know im innocent i have no reculation can i plead insanity i didnt know what i did. seriously peoplei dont know what to say because people suffer and i have no clue how to aid someone who has had a experience that dark and im sorry if you did but this can be so easyly abused its our human nature (frontal lobe) to recall past events traumatizing or not to help us identify ourseleves not just live fuctionally in society. please dont judge me but i have to say im against this drug."
(Duke 7/3/2007 10:11:49 PM) |
"and by the way the world is built on opposites. If you elminate "bad" then what can you rightfully judge as "good". it is unknown in human nature to elimate on side of something on a scale as big as human emotion or memory. its desensitizing and that is inhuman - definition lacking qualities of sympathy, pity, warmth, compassion, or the like; cruel; brutal. you can yell at me on you want about i dont know what its like to suffer, ive had my share prolly not as severe but i still live with it on a day to day basis. this is establishing a artifical nature extinguishing what creates our natural lives of both good and bad, happy or sad. If you are willing to respond to what i logicly have to say please due with logic i dont want to listen to pleas or sad stories ive seen enough in my life if you can honestly explain to me how creating a drug like this is considered humanate then by all means im eager to listen on a exchange of ideas. thanks for your time"
(Duke 7/3/2007 10:24:35 PM) |
"any further response you wish not to post here please email to me at desertfox0331@yahoo.com"
(Duke 7/3/2007 10:32:44 PM) |
"At first glance, this seems very positive because the press is putting a "positive" spin on it. However, the impilcations of this are immense!!! Imagine something like this in the hands of the government to use for "national security" purposes, or in the hands of certain large corporations. All I can say is that not much these days scares me, but this development REALLY SCARES me."
( 7/3/2007 11:46:56 PM) |
"Why drug yourself when it can be done naturally? There is a book called Dianetics, The Modern Science of Mental Health which gives the procedure to handle bad memories and is 100% natural. Millions of people have done it and the book has sold over 20 Million copies. Wait and see the side effects of this drug. You have no idea what it can do."
(Camilla 7/4/2007 12:01:18 AM) |
"Memories are what make us human. I can see why people would want to forget abusive and traumatic pasts, but would this drug completely erase the memory or just make it less painful? If it's the first one, I'm against it. For one scenario of what it would be like to live without memories, read Lois Lowry's The Giver. Memories humanize; forgetting strips our innate dignity as human."
( 7/4/2007 1:10:59 AM) |
"This Medicine is a very bad ideal, because it can erase good memory to. I've seen what some medicines have done to memory, so stop this crazy idea before it's to late. "
(Rosemary Osborn 7/4/2007 4:05:35 AM) |
"thank you all for your imput"
( 7/4/2007 11:17:41 AM) |
"Things that have happened to us throughout life shape our character. We must take the bad with the good. It is from the bad things in life that we gain our strength.
I can envision bad things happening with this medicine. "
(Notagoodthing 7/5/2007 12:21:51 AM) |
"I wrote the stories for The Island and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind & contributed to The Star Wars (from a 1963 Novella, The Star War), so it's creepy when people bring the stories up in conversation for their relevance. What relevance?
We've had memory erasing drugs for many years. Ordinary anesthetics erase memories in real time, and if you get another drug that happens to make one highly suggestable, then you can become a Manturian Candidate assassin. It's how Ruby, Nixon's man, was "persuaded" to murder innocent Lee Oswald, Sirhan Sirhan to kill Bobby, that patsy to kill MLK, those nubbins to maime George Wallace, Ronald Regan, and the Pope. All those people were in the way of one George H.W. Bush (the guy who "convinced" big wig Texas republicans to run his johnny-come-latelyness for US Senate from Texas in 1964. Wha?
Of course, FDR was shot in the heart by his girlfriend, too.
I was there when George W. Bush decided to run for President back in 1971, and I was there again when the Clinton's both decided to go for it.
So how much will this drug cost and where can I get my hands on some? Hmmmm? Maybe I can get my reputation back and get out of the hospital for good."
(Bubba Nicholson 7/6/2007 10:36:31 PM) |
"anyone for M.I.B."
(Christopher Thomas 11/8/2007 8:28:02 PM) |
"I totally forgot about that. Perhaps I, myself, was flashy-thingied.

(Neuralizer from Men in Black (MIB))
"
(Bill Christensen 11/8/2007 10:00:27 PM) |
"I want to forget some things so that I can be more successful. Leave "some" emotion and more understanding. I think this is the only way to cure severe heartache. It will save someone's life...."
(anna 2/25/2010 10:04:07 PM) |
"sir
please send the detais of this drug "
(chandra 3/31/2011 11:51:30 PM) |
