Comments on Auti Interactive Toy For Autistic Children
This little toy may be of special interest to Anne McCaffrey fans. (Read the complete story)

"This could be used to help autistic children... OTOH, imagine using smart toys and games to program children to be less likely to rebel against authority in a totalitarian regime..."
(Yossi Preminger 7/8/2011 8:19:58 AM)
"Aw, how cute! It's like a cross between a Tribble and a headcrab ^_^ A rather touching news story, helping kids with problems overcome their difficulties. Nice find! "
(Gatomon41 7/8/2011 4:42:11 PM)
"Tho I note they don't seem to have considered one major problem. Many autists find certain textures extremely disagreeable. For some, it's the soft textures of the psuedo-fur that the Auti has which would trigger negative reactions..."
(Ashley 7/9/2011 9:22:50 AM)
"ok, I know nothing about autism, but is a robotic and non-lifelike toy the best thing for an autistic child? Seems like adding more weirdness in a situation where the child is trying to learn to adjust to reality."
(duG 7/12/2011 10:59:32 AM)
"duG: there will be lots of argument about it, but the basic answer is "this could really help lots of autistic children". there's also going to be a large number for whom this is a very bad idea. the problem is, looking at history, this option is going to be either blanket-accepted or blanket-rejected. (I have asperger's syndrome. part of the autism spectrum, and the reason I mentioned the bit about textures)"
