China Bans Time Travel-Based TV Shows
Time travel-based television shows have been banned by China's General Bureau of Radio, Film and Television. In a popular example, Shen Hua (Myth), a young man travels through time to ancient China and eventually becomes a general commanding thousands of soldiers.

The General Bureau of Radio, Film and Television states:
"The time-travel drama is becoming a hot theme for TV and films. But its content and the exaggerated performance style are questionable. Many stories are totally made-up and are made to strain for an effect of novelty. The producers and writers are treating the serious history in a frivolous way, which should by no means be encouraged anymore."
It's not clear what the Chinese government finds most offensive; the idea that stories might be made-up (is that a government monopoly?) or that citizens should not be encouraged to think that they can escape the modern regime even in fiction ("made-up" stories).
