Robotic Hands Have More Than One Use
This great-looking, if slightly creepy, robotic hand comes out of Biomimetic Studio I London.
Biomimic Studio is a South London based studio specialising in creating highly realistic Animatronics. Set up in 2013 by Gustav Hoegen. The ambition of Biomimic studio is to continue the recent renaissance of practical and Creature effects. Having established great working relationships with the best technicians and artists the business has to offer, Biomimic Studio will guarantee the best team will be assembled for creating any Animatronic imaginable. This artist collective formed for each project always makes for an inspiring journey where new ideas and techniques are applied in creating a fantasy creature, realistic animal or an Animatronic human. Always staying true to the philosophy of applying creative engineering inspired by anatomy and translating organic movement into mechanical beings. With each artist bringing the best in their respective fields the results are always astounding.
Thankfully, the robotic hand is attached (firmly) to the wrist!
Who else but Philip K. Dick could conceive of robotic hands that could be, in effect, independent robots in their own right. Check out the robotic surgeon hand from Philip K. Dick's 1955 short story War Veteran:
From time to time V-Stephens examined his wristwatch and then turned his attention back to the object crawling up and down the sealed edges of the entrance-lock.

(Robot Surgeon Hand from 'War Veteran' by Philip K. Dick)
The object moved slowly and cautiously. It had been exploring the lock for twenty-nine hours straight; it had traced down the power leads that kept the heavy plate fused in place... During the last hour it had cut its way throught the rexeroid surface to within an inch of the terminals. The crawling, exploring object was V-Stephen's surgeon-hand, a self-contained robot of precision quality usually joined to his right wrist.
