MAI-Voice-2 Microsoft Text-To-Speech

Microsoft just launched MAI-Voice-2, its most advanced text-to-speech model to date. The system features high-fidelity voice cloning from very brief audio samples.

“Today we’re launching MAI-Voice-2 — the most expressive, natural-sounding text-to-speech model we’ve built to date. It’s a significant leap from its predecessor across every dimension that matters to production voice experiences: fidelity, language coverage, speaker consistency, and emotional range.”

Science fiction fans may recall Nat Schachner’s short story The Shining One (published in Astounding Science-Fiction in 1937). In the story, an inventor creates an amazing multiple sample artificial voice:

“A very simple trick. I made disks of my own voice to the number of five hundred very carefully chosen words. Then I ran them over again, a bit off key, at different speeds, to give them that queer, slurred, alien-sounding accent of the future.”

This fictional technique, which combined multiple audio samples of words and varying their playback speed and pitch to create a single, smoothed, rich, and deliberately otherworldly voice, represents an early sfnal concept of voice morphing and stylized audio generation, that is similar to MAI-VOICE-2.
