Jonathan Swift (b. 1667 d. 1745) was an Irish cleric, essayist and satirist. Famous for such works as Gulliver's Travels and A Modest Proposal. He left most of his personal fortune to found a hospital for the mentally ill in 1757, which still serves patients today.
