| "About twenty years ago I read a story about the use of this idea (I can't remember the title or author). The beam came down into a sort of crater or receptacle. The receptacle was surrounded with a kind of zone or moat that would detect even the slightest deviation of the beam. If the beam crossed the safety zone, it would shut down the satellite.
