"Actually only partly correct re: Jenkins' Phantoscope. Jenkins and Thomas Armat developed it jointly, then went to war over who it belonged to. It was used in the first public demonstration of motion picture projection. Claiming the invention as his own, Armat made off with the working model and took it to Edison, who agreed to promote it. At that point it became the Vitascope, and Edison made himself its official inventor, leaving both Jenkins and Armat out in the cold. Jenkins and Armat were both acknowledged at various later times by different organizations as the single inventor of the first motion picture projection device, but Jenkins probably has the stronger claim. "
