Steelonium
A remarkable kind of steel that did not rust or corrode. (Read
the full article)
"The hulls of the revolutionary British Dreadnought class battleships of 1905 were made of a chromium, nickel steel alloy almost identical to what we call stainless steel (except for being case-hardened like the edge of a modern knife by having higher carbon content on the surface).
Major steelworks such as Ravenscraig and Sheffield were made specially to produce this alloy. There are records of experiments in 1909 to find commercial use for this alloy shown in the Science Museum in London. The third generation of the Dreadnought building program was wound down in 1919 and production of the new metal - was moved to new civilian purposes particularly in Sheffield."

"For more information on Hugo Gernsback check out a new biography available on Amazon.
The document was found by me when we closed down Gernsback Publications in 2003. It was an old ms that I edited and produced as a book.
Follow the link and you can go to the book and thanks to Amazon’s “look inside” feature, you can even get an idea of what it covers.
