Comments on Cuil Search Engine Optimization (Cuil Tuil No Juil)
Cuil shows a different first page of results than Google, but different isn't necessarily better. You'll need to read the first sentence to understand the title. (Read the complete story)

"As much as we love google, it never hurts to look for new and original interfaces. I still really like the experimental 10x10 News Interface. When you're ready to go to the site, click 'this is now' then 'launch 10x10', then mouse over the graphic."

"So far I am not impressed with Cuil v Google in and Alpha/Beta sort of search test. Given time perhaps it will yield interesting results, but I have yet to see what is so special or different about it. For example, using some Boolean rules, I typed in the name of my great grandfather (whom I just found out was a turn of the century bicycle racer) and the word 'cyclist' Cuil had nothing of relevance and the presentation of the irrelevant info was even more confusing, whereas Google zeroed in on everything from news articles to oddball bicycle history sites. Other semantic and content tests yielded similar results. I am still willing to give it a chance. its on my toolbar, but so far I am not convinced."

"There are probably thousands of competing commercial search sites, of which Yahoo and Google are only the most well known. Lycos and Altavista were in the running not too many years ago. I'm sure they still exist. I'm sure there are new ones every month, that spend their start-up money and die on a regular basis. What's so special about Cuil that it's worth reviewing on a site that's not really about covering the search-engine business? (And I'm afraid in a French-influenced language like English C-U-I-L looks like it's pronounced QUEEL ...) "

"I'm sorry, did I missing something? Where did you address your opening question, 'How might you optimize your site for cuil?' Is there more to this article?"
(John 7/31/2008 10:26:14 AM)
"Sorry, John, I've made some revisions to try to pull my conclusions out of the verbiage on the page. I hope it's more clear now. If cuil.com is around for any length of time, more details will become available."
