Comments on Lipodiesel - Energy From Liposuction Fat
In which Dr. Bittner makes a wrong turn on the road to a more fuel-efficient society. (Read the complete story)

"I read a short story about something like this once. I have no idea what it was called but I remember the paperback book of short stories had a very blue cover with two people and a basketball hoop. That said, the story was about the future and in it people could eat whatever they wanted and then they just went inside this machine and it sucked away all their fat. The main character began to suspect that it was an alien race that was using human fat as fuel. Very interesting story."

"Doesn't ring a bell with me; maybe with someone else. Great reference, though."

"Make room in your tank, make room! From the makers of Soylent Green comes a new way to feed your internal combustion automobile!"

"Nelson - great headline! I wish I'd thought of that one. This would be a great side business for the Soylent Green people. Fans can take a look at the Soylent Green wafers from this article on fictional foodstuffs."

"Decided to try looking again and found it. Its called "Lose Now, Pay Later" by Carol Farley. The synopsis from the website I found( http://tinyurl.com/73e2pt ) is as follows: "Lose Now, Pay Later: The year is 2041, and swoodie shops are opening all over Earth. The narrator, Deb, and her best friend Trinja are among the first customers at the local swoodie shop, where machines mysteriously create free swoodies, which are similar to pudding. Soon almost everybody is lining up for swoodies, and gaining weight at an alarming rate. One day, Deb and Trinja discover a solution to their weight problem: a "slimmer" machine that removes extra weight for twenty-five yen a pound. The slimmer works instantly; afterwards customers receive a tiny blue mark for every ten pounds lost. Like the swoodie shops, slimmers become an instant success and open up in many areas. The only person skeptical about swoodies and slimmers is Deb's little brother. He thinks they may both be run by space aliens in invisible ships who are gathering up energy from human fat to use as fuel. ""
