Comments on Man vs. Machine: Surviving Compaction In A Garbage Truck
In a classic story of man versus machine that took place right in my own home town, a homeless man in Ann Arbor, Michigan survived compaction in a garbage truck. (Read
the complete story)
"There are many exemples of this classic theme in the CiFi history. The idea, i think, it´s older like the same Cifi literature and begins with RUR by Karel Capek (1920), if we do not think about Mary Shelley´s Frankestein. It´s a good example of a creature revelated against his creator. The list of exemples can be extenssive.
I remember, for example, the origin of the Matrix, explained in the Animatrix animations; or movies like Metropolis (Fritz Lang, 1926) Westworld (1973) with Yul Brynner, and the Star Wars Saga, where the dark side of the force it´s represented with a mechanical being named Darth Vader.
The Cifi literature explore this idea very often: Phillip K. Dick narrative universe is full of paradoxal confrotation between artificiality and humanity.

"This has happened again in Florida -
'A homeless man who had fallen asleep in a trash bin to escape the rain was dumped into a garbage truck and survived being crushed repeatedly before a worker saw him.
Robert Baswell, 44, said he screamed as the load of trash was crushed against his body at least seven times and was sure he would die. He tried to cushion one blow from the truck's compressor with a dead opossum, he said.'
