Comments on Google Glasses With Heads Up Display Coming Soon?
Google certainly has the information network to back up these glasses, and make augmented reality ... a reality. (Read the complete story)

"You're forgetting Vinge's book Rainbows End."
( 2/7/2012 8:46:50 AM)
"While there's lots of examples in normal sf books (to varying degrees of similarity), I'd think sf RPGs should also be considered. Shadowrun has had things like this since 1989, and there's plenty of others of similar vintage that also have such things."
(Ashley 2/7/2012 11:20:31 AM)
"Vinge's 2006 novel Rainbows End provides a detailed and imaginative presentation of how augmented reality technology might be used. See the entry for wearables, which provides the computer power. See also the entry for smart contact lenses, which is how Vinge provides for a display (note that this entry is from the 2001 story Fast Times at Fairmont High).

"Ashley (or others) - any additional information and screen captures would be great; use the contact link at the bottom of the page.

Also, I should mention that the Niven and Barnes 1992 novel The California Voodoo Game used Scleral Contact Lenses to access and display augmented reality information."
(Bill Christensen 2/7/2012 2:29:47 PM)

"I shudder to think about all the idiots who will use this while driving to check their Facebook status! Google can't be oblivious to this and all the potential ligigation it would generate, so I would imagine there would have to be something that could prevent certain apps from being used while in the driver's seat - after all, there aren't enough police in the world to pull over every person wearing sunglassed just b/c they suspect they are "Google Glasses"!"
(Joe 2/14/2012 2:04:39 PM)
"I hadn't really thought about Facebook, but you're right. I nearly got creamed about twenty minutes ago by someone in a parking lot. At least I could see that she was talking on a cellphone, and could take proper precautions. After these are in common use, you'll never know when anyone is paying attention!"
