Comments on Army Wants Black Blacker Than Black
'Well, we have a black coating now that’s ninety-nine percent absorptive...'- Doc Smith, 1940. (Read the complete story)

"they tried using flat black on night fighters in WW2. all it did was create an unnatural looking "hole in the sky" when they put the searchlights on. this is why they switched to gloss black. this "light absorbing" tech will create teh same "hole" that the flat black did, only better. and it will be just as easy to spot."

"I think I read that somewhere too, but I can't believe that a "hole in the sky" the size of an airplane seen from a distance of 15,000 feet (3 miles) would be that noticeable."
(Bill Christensen 12/26/2012 8:43:53 PM)
"If the planes were flying below some clouds, I can see it happening with active search lights. I think the Army is looking to boost it's defense against Passive observers, color certainly won't hide you in an active search. And the Army doesn't have fixed wing 'manned' aircraft. The specs they are looking for also absorb infra red, That is a big giveaway for anyone with thermal cameras."
(Dewtey 12/27/2012 5:41:59 AM)
"The military training asteroid in the Orson Scott Card novel "Ender's Game" also had been specially 'coated' by the alien 'buggers' to have an extremely low albedo and be almost perfectly non-reflective black to hide it from observers. Docking ships had to rely on instruments even when they were right on top of it visually."
