| "Jansen really is trying to create autonomous machines that roam the landscape in a natural fashion, using wind for "food" (that is, power). There is a lot of research going on right now regarding autonomous machines that can (for example) fly over a particular region for months at a time, either for surveillance or as part of a communications grid. There are porpoise-like autonomous diving robots that are being made to keep tabs on the ecology of the open ocean.
