Comments on Blob Analysis Key To Next Generation Computerized Lie Detectors
Blob analyzing computers can tell if you're lying - maybe. (Read the complete story)

"what a waste. the truth tester, don't they know that it all boils down to the judgement of the judgers and not percentage of false or true matchings"
(oooooooo 9/12/2005 11:24:08 AM)
"They refer to the problem of bias in the paper -
"These efforts range from simple fact checking, to polygraphs, to pseudoscientific physiognomic approaches. Some of these lines of attack are grounded in reality, while others actually decrease detection accuracy. Typically, most people fall victim to the Truth Bias where they tend to believe that others are truthful even when this trust is misplaced. On the other hand, law enforcement and intelligence professionals often hold the Othello Bias – a belief that people are generally deceptive. In either case, people are not effective at detecting deception.
The hope of the researchers is that computers can achieve an unbiased stance."
(Bill 9/12/2005 12:44:50 PM)
"This is an interesting idea, it presents interesting problems. When we define what normative "truth telling" motions are, there is the chance the we cut out actual "truth telling" motions for certain people. How could a system that simply judges how most (albeit a very high percent) people respond when acting truthful be a perfect test? Of course, it couldn't be one. As such, how could it be admissable in court?"

"Another interesting sidenote to this kind of lie detector is that it can be used on people who are not aware of it (as opposed to being hooked up to a polygraph).
In the near future, you might be standing at the counter at an airline, and the person giving you your boarding pass might ask a series of questions, watching the analysis of your behavior on a screen. 'Is your name really So-and-So?' ... 'Are you a terrorist?' "
(Bill 9/15/2005 1:24:49 PM)
"And how many people will end up in jail based on this crap?"
(Sam 9/15/2005 1:24:49 PM)
"What we need is a BLOG analyser so we can tell which blogger is blowing smoke up our butts."
(Sam 9/15/2005 1:29:54 PM)
"Idiots."
