Comments on R7 Ridable Robot
Neal Stephenson, among others, saw this one coming. (Read the complete story)

"dat must be wack"
(adowg 7/24/2006 9:44:19 AM)
"I'm usually looking for more detail in the comments... In googling 'ridable robot' I find that I am approximately the last person on the Internet to find out about this story. However, I also found out about the Butterscotch My Furreal Friends Pony from our friends at Hasbro. This item is child-sized, but is in a more traditional horse shape. It even makes horsey sounds."
(Bill Christensen 7/24/2006 12:05:03 PM)
"There was also the "robass", a robotic ass, in "The Quest for Saint Aquin". That was by Anthony Boucher in 1951."
(Mark 7/24/2006 7:54:56 PM)
"Thanks for writing, Mark. I added Anthony Boucher's robass to the site."
(Bill Christensen 7/24/2006 9:03:27 PM)
"Why do we want this thing? What makes it a robot? just because it has "legs"? So a 4 wheel ATV is faster and more comfortable..."
(Dug 7/25/2006 1:27:13 AM)
"That depends on the terrain... one of the reasons DARPA is developing the quadrupedal BigDog robot is to have a device that can negotiate urban environments as well as rocky terrain."
(Bill Christensen 7/25/2006 8:32:53 AM)
"It says, "If you purchase the 4th leg option, you can save the cost of the helmet.""
(Josh N 7/26/2006 7:08:16 PM)
"The price is off by a factor of ten - it is $52,260 USD"
(David K 7/28/2006 11:03:46 AM)
"David - thanks for the update; that does seem more reasonable for a device that actually works as stated."
(Bill Christensen 7/28/2006 2:19:45 PM)
"can butterscotch the pony walk around???"
( 8/9/2006 12:45:33 PM)
