Aeryon Scout UAV Like In Crichton's Runaway

The Aeryon Scout UAV is a nifty unmanned aerial surveillance device from Aeryon Labs of Ottowa, Canada. I'm wondering if the inventors happened to see Michael Crichton's 1985 movie Runaway, which has a "floater camera" that is really the same thing.

The Aeryon Scout aerial camera is safe to operate both indoors and outside. The device can be operated with handheld controls; advanced fully autonomous map-based navigation relieves operators of the burden of flying the device when needed. The four rotors keep the device up in the air.

How high can you fly the Aeryon Scout UAV? Up to 1500 feet, according to their website. The device is not too fast, attaining speeds of about 25 miles per hour. Depending upon the payload, the Scout can remain airborne on its battery power for about twenty minutes.

The Aeryon Scout is pretty much a copy of the floater camera used in Michael Crichton's 1985 film Runaway, which showcases a number of innovative technological ideas.

In the movie, the device can fly both outside and indoors; in the film, it is used in a hostage situation. Read more about the floater camera; don't miss the cool in-dash video screen and controller for the device.
