SubjuGator: Flying Sub From Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea
The SubjuGator is an autonomous underwater vehicle based on the design of the Flying Sub, which sf fans (and TV watchers of the 1960's) remember from the Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea television show.

The complete system was designed, engineered, fabricated, tested and launched by students to meet the conditions of the 2004 International Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Competition. Entered vehicles must meet these conditions:
"The new sub must be able to navigate through an underwater gate, receive and correctly interpret a visual navigation signal underwater, and then proceed on a search pattern to approach within visual detection range of a small LED display. At the display, the autonomous vehicle must then engage two specified target receptacles, successfully loading these with special 1.5 pound marker modules, and returning to base, all within the specified time."The 7th International Autonomous Underwater Vehicle Competition was held July 28 - August 1, 2004 at the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center in San Diego. The University of Florida came in 7th overall out of 18 entries. We wonder if the judges factored "sixties cool" into the equation for determining the winner.
