Hero Dog From 9/11 Cloned 5X
The dog Trakr, a German shepherd dog which (along with his handler) was one of the first respondents to the World Trade Center attack, won the Golden Clone Giveaway. The contest was sponsored by California firm BioArts International, in collaboration with South Korea's SooAm Biotech Research Foundation.
His owner James Symington, a former Canadian police officer, said that one of the clones - Trust - was an exact replica of Trakr.
"The physical similarities are uncanny," he told AFP. "He's the spitting image of the Trakr that I first met in 1995. He has exactly the same markings, the way he moves, everything. Very alert, very intelligent and intuitive."
At $144,000 per clone retail, this is probably out of reach for even the most obsessive pet owner.
Trust, Valor, Prodigy, Solace and Deja Vu are clones of Trakr... who located the last human survivor rescued from the rubble.

Science fiction fans of course remember that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger had a cloned dog in the 2000 movie The Sixth Day. Fans of sf author Frank Herbert recall Duncan Idaho, whose ghola reappeared through an entire series of books.
Via 9/11 'hero dog' is cloned five times.
