Kiss ME Device For Kiss Communication
Kiss ME is a project intended to deliver a tele-kiss, a remote, mediated kiss delivered in real-time, and integrated into mobile communication devices. The project is being developed under the leadership of Adrian David Cheok, Director of the Mixed Reality Lab, National University of Singapore
(Kiss ME)
Kiss ME provides a novel way of transferring a mediated kiss remotely through real-time interactive media. It provides a hi-fidelity physical interface enabling kiss communication for several applications facilitating social communication and intimate human telepresence with both the real and virtual worlds. For humans, kissing is the simplest act of social affection, yet it can be the most sensual and loving act of all. Kissing also plays a crucial biologically motivated role in allowing prospective mates to smell and taste each others pheromones for detecting compatibility. With the aid of wireless digital communication media and advanced robotic technology, the system takes the form of an artificial mouth equipped with highly sensitive pair of life-like lips that provides the convincing properties of the real kiss including pressure and temperature.
SF writer Frederik Pohl predicted this development in his 1965 novel The Age of the Pussyfoot:
"Man Forrester, the personal callers are as follows:
...Adne Bensen: female, Universalist, Arcadian-Trimmer, twenty-three declared, five feet seven inches, experiencer-homeswoman, no business stated. Her kiss follows."
Forrester did not know what to expect but was pleasantly ready for anything.
What he got was indeed a kiss. It was disconcerting. No kissing lips were visible. There was a hint of perfumed breath, then a pressure on the lips - warm and soft, moist and sweet.
Startled, he touched his mouth. "How the devil did you do that?" he shouted.
"Sensory stimulation through the tactile net, Man Forrester..."
