Flex, The First Portable VeinViewer
Flex, the first hand-held version of VeinViewer, is now available. VeinViewer uses an infra-red camera to highlight blood and then projects the image onto the skin, making it easier for health care providers to do necessary needle sticks.

Christie Medical Holdings’ has announced the VeinViewer Flex, the first portable offering in the company’s VeinViewer line. The new device’s reduced size and battery operation make it possible to use VeinViewer technology in home care settings and blood centers for the first time.
Fans of writer Michael Crichton will recognize the automatic vein finder from his 1969 novel The Andromeda Strain. Crichton was himself a medical doctor.
The device was able to insert intravenous needles, finding veins easily."Place your hand on the board to the left. Do not move. You will feel a slight prick as the intravenous needle is inserted."
Hall looked over at the screen. It flashed a color image of his hand, with the veins showing in a pattern of green against a blue background.
