Meat Farm Like Matrix, Daybreak And Blade - But For Chickens

The Centre for Unconscious Farming is an exhibition project by Andre Ford, student at the Architecture Department at the Royal College of Art. The intent of the project is to find a better way to farm the millions of chickens needed to feed our insatiable need for chicken nuggets, sandwiches, broilers, buffalo wings, etc.

As long as their brain stem is intact, the homeostatic functions of the chicken will continue to operate. By removing the cerebral cortex of the chicken, its sensory perceptions are removed. It can be produced in a denser condition while remaining alive, and oblivious.

The feet will also be removed so the body of the chicken can be packed together in a dense volume.

Food, water and air are delivered via an arterial network and excreta is removed in the same manner. Around 1000 chickens will be packed into each 'leaf', which forms part of a moving, productive system.

SF filmmakers have been salivating over this idea for years. In the 2009 film Daybreakers, a vampiric corporation tries to capture the few remaining humans and then farm them for blood.

The following debate between Charles Bromley (Sam Neill). the CEO of Bromley Marks a pharmaceutical company which is the main supplier of blood in the United States and Lead vampire hematologist working on the blood substitute Edward Dalton (Ethan Hawke) shows the contrast between Daltons idealism and Bromleys corporate greed.

ED DALTON - Finding a substitute sir...this will mean freedom for all humans around the world, correct?
CHARLES BROMLEY - Its important that we allow the human race time to repopulate.
ED DALTON - With all due respect, thats not what I asked.
CHARLES BROMLEY - (Smiling) - The majority of the population will be content with a blood subsitute, yes...but there will always be those who are willing to pay top dollar for the real thing Ed Dalton is clearly shocked.
CHARLES BROMLEY - Come on Edward , we have to be realistic. If we don't cater to all markets someone else will. You understand, don't you?

In the 2004 film Blade III: Trinity, Blade and Abigail learn of the vampire "final solution", which involves a warehouse where hundreds of homeless humans are being kept "alive" in a chemically-induced coma, trapped in body bags. This keeps in line with vampires needing live food sources if the vampire race were to take over the world.

And of course in the 1999 film The Matrix, human beings are farmed by sentient machines, using their heat and electrical activity.
