NTT Docomo To Create 'Ghost In The Shell' Technology
NTT Docomo Ventures Inc. has initiated an ambitious project create the fictional technologies found in the cyberpunk world of the "Ghost in the Shell" manga and anime franchise.
The Ghost in the Shell Realize Project will research and develop technologies that include optical camouflage devices, memory manipulation and cyborg bodies...
Masahiko Inami, professor at Keio University's Graduate School of Media Design is known for his research and development of an optical camouflage system, which makes anyone wearing a special reflective material blend in with the environment and become almost invisible.
During the talk, Naotaka Fujii, leader of the Adaptive Intelligence team at the Riken Brain Science Institute said it is technically possible to mix up memories of the past with reality and alter memories with the use of head-mounted displays.
Realistically, it is currently impossible to realize all of the fictional technologies that are found in "Ghost in the Shell." But those involved in the Ghost in the Shell Realize Project believe that some of them could become a reality by 2029.
NTT Docomo Ventures Inc. is not the only group trying to create Ghost in the Shell tech:
