Tesla Model S Is Also A Boat (Sort Of)
As amazing as the Tesla Model S is known to be, it seems to have as-yet unrevealed features.
Apparently, there is even more to the Tesla Model S, with Tesla Motors founder and CEO Elon Musk claiming that the electric vehicle can function as a boat.
In a tweet, Musk said that while it is not recommended, the Tesla Model S will be able to float well enough to transform into a boat for a short period of time if the need arises. The vehicle will be able to propel itself in the water through the rotation of its wheel.
The interesting tidbit was not tweeted by Musk out of the blue, however, as there was an incident where a Tesla Model S owner decided to drive the electric vehicle through a flooded tunnel in Kazakhstan.
Science fiction fans are hearing echoes of Robert Heinlein's 1941 classic Methuselah's Children. In this scene, Lazarus Long and Mary Sperling are effecting an escape in their Camden speedster:
"I didn't know myself," she admitted, then went on worriedly, "I don't know quite what to do now. I thought we could lie quiet out of town until dark... but I had to show my hand a Little when I took that fence. By now somebody will be reporting it to the tower. Mmm.
"Why wait until dark?" he asked. "Why not just bounce over to the lake in this Dick Dare contraption of yours and let it swim us home?"
"I don't like to," she fretted. "I've attracted too much attention already..."
