Nokia Lifeblog Multimedia Diary

Another product has emerged to capture every last detail of your life - the Nokia Lifeblog Multimedia Diary. This product is a mobile phone software application that "effortlessly" (more on that later) keeps a multimedia diary of the items you collect with your mobile phone. It can help you organize photos, videos, text messages and multimedia messages. You can add notes throughout the day. This material can be uploaded to a PC, where you can do more work on it.

Nokia Lifeblog

You can search through your entries on your PC. However, it does not automatically publish to the web, a disappointment for those who would like to Google their life at every opportunity, not to mention the sticklers who remember that "blog" is short for "web log" (as Richard Giles mentioned on SmartMobs). You might want to check out TypePad, a hosted weblogging service that supports quick publishing.

In a similar vein, you might want to read the recent Science Fiction in the News story SenseCam Camera: Your Personal Black Box. William Gibson mentioned a media sciences student who used a motion capture suit to keep a diary of all of his physical movements in All Tomorrow's Parties

A cautionary note for those who use the annotation features of Lifeblog. Outside the sf genre, literary geeks may remember The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman, published between 1759 and 1767 in nine volumes. This revolutionary novel sets out to tell the story of its narrator beginning at conception. However, he has so much to tell that he is not even born until volume 4. He finally realizes that it takes him more time to tell the story of his life than he has time to live. The novel concludes by advising the reader that he or she has been taken in by a cock and bull story.

This novel should be a warning to those who use Lifeblog; too much time spent annotating and editing, and your Lifeblog will consist of a multimedia presentation of your use of Lifeblog.
