Can Artificial Intelligences Be Stopped?
I ran into an interesting tweet on the futility of trying to unplug super-intelligent AIs; my response references the electromagnetic shotgun devised by William Gibson in Neuromancer (1984):

Arthur C. Clarke described something similar in his beautifully done 1982 novel 2010: Odyssey Two:
"What is it?" asked Curnow with mild distaste, hefting the little mechanism in his hand. "A guillotine for mice?"
