At the Bottom of a Hole by Larry Niven:
Science Fiction Inventions, Technology and Ideas
Muller is a smuggler and a native of the asteroid belt - he's a Belter. He has a cargo of twenty kilos of pure north magnetic poles and is trying to get to Luna in his private ship. Chased by a government vessel, he is forced to land on Mars. His ship is not equipped to land on an airy planet with heavy gravity but manages to get down to the surface with a damaged ship.
Title derives from the fact that, to a Belter used to microgravity, going down towards high gravity planetary surface is like going into a (gravity) hole. Select
