| "very interesting, but I wonder how long it will be until this weapon finds its way into the hands of terrorists. who needs a law rocket when you can use a laser to knock a plane out of the sky. planes move much slower than a missle so you might not even need a radar sighting system, a simple telescopic sighting system could work as well for ranges up to perhaps several miles...and if the laser is using a nonvisible wavelength then the beam cwould not even be seen, so no one could tell where it came from... scary stuff indeed.
on a similar note, the milatary/law enforcement depts are working on a 'guided lighting bolt' as it were, by projecting a electrical current down a path of ionized air which is formed by a laser, this path acts as a wire guide from the generator to the target. the voltage can be enough to 'taser' a person(can you say stun ray) to lethal destructive levels(millions of volts at thousands of amps)(can you say Blaster!). Range is line of sight with enough power, with no windage and gravity concerns.although it could not be used in a vaccume, only in an atmosphere.uses range from disabling an enemy to disabling vehicles to destroying targets with a targeted 'lighting strike' oddly enough, i myself proposed this idea to a friend of mine several years ago, and of course stupid me, i did not apply for a patent for it. oh, well, the goverment would have probably just taken it for the military to develope anyway..." | "The electricity through a laser is pretty impractical, but AFAIK it was proposed decades ago. Your patent would have been quite meaningless.
I think it's only a matter of time before someone figures out that mirroring a projectile and adding a bit of insulation will ensure that the laser cannot shoot down more than one or two of a large barrage, ie 10, projectiles.
It is still very interesting technology.
