Comments on Escape Pods, Refuge Of ISS Astronauts From Space Junk
Who first thought of the idea of an escape pod? I looked pretty hard, but more research is probably needed. (Read the complete story)

"There was also a design for an individual, inflatable re-entry vehicle. Ripley used an escape pod in Alien."
(Peter Jacobs 11/11/2009 5:25:51 PM)
"Good point; here's a picture from Alien 3 showing Ripley. Any other examples, readers?

"
(Bill Christensen 11/11/2009 5:48:02 PM)

"There's the MOOSE system from the early 60s: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOOSE"
( 11/12/2009 12:21:05 AM)
"look up E.E.Doc Smith as well. an escape pod and life boat as well."
(Christopher Thomas 2/22/2010 7:41:53 PM)
"You're right - take a look at these entries for the Ablative Heat (Reentry) Shield and the Emergency Lifeboat, both from Triplanetary."
(Bill Christensen 2/22/2010 8:29:30 PM)
"In the third passage, did you not mean Space Shuttle rather than station? In regards to NASA seeking alternatives following Challenger..."
(Josh 1/3/2012 8:55:00 AM)
"Well, I wrote the article a while ago, but I'm pretty sure that I did mean to say that. The problem being addressed is that of being able to provide some way for the ISS personnel to return home. I think."
(Bill Christensen 1/3/2012 7:13:23 PM)
