Sci Fi Channel To Make Money Ender's Game-Style
Sci Fi Channel execs are planning a new show for the 2010 season, one that will allow viewers to participate in the battles that will determine the outcome of the show.
Although there are no details on the content of the program, it will be set in the future in an Earth very different from today's. (Because today's Earth is boring?)
"A television show that is on once a week isn't enough. The fans today want the experience to go beyond that," Dave Howe, president of the Sci Fi Channel, said. "For example, we can tell them that there will be an alien invasion at a certain place in the game, at a certain time, and to be there with all their friends and be ready. The outcome depends on them. And then that battle will be part of the universe in the show."
This is so cool. In Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game, a brilliant boy general plays a game and unknowingly puts millions at risk and winds up saving humanity.
In the Sci Fi Channel version, some brilliant players will play a game and unknowingly risk millions of dollars in corporate money invested in this idea, and (maybe) wind up saving the network.
