NYC/Dublin Portal Fails To Meet 'Guardian Of Forever' Standards
One of my favorite classic Star Trek episodes features the Guardian of Forever
(The City on the Edge of Forever airdate: 1967)
A very cool riff on this idea was recently installed between Dublin and New York City:

A public technology sculpture known as The Portal was unveiled this morning in New York City’s ’s Flatiron neighborhood. The sculpture has a real-time, visual live stream connecting New York City to Dublin, Ireland. pic.twitter.com/ATNBq63QeC
Unfortunately, the Portal does not have the fine sensibilities of the Guardian of Forever, which is apparently above stupid human tricks, which caused the Portal to be closed down.
According to the council, the portal was shut down due to "inappropriate behavior" by "a very small minority of people"."While we cannot control all of these actions, we are implementing some technical solutions to address this and these will go live in the next 24 hours," the council said in a statement seen by BBC News.
"We will continue to monitor the situation over the coming days with our partners in New York to ensure that portals continue to deliver a positive experience for both cities and the world."
