Warp Drive Tech Back On The Menu
Is a warp drive really possible?
A new study suggests that tweaking the shape of a negative mass ring could slash the energy needed for a warp bubble from the mass of Jupiter to just 700 kg.
NASA’s Dr. Harold White is already testing ways to create tiny warp bubbles in the lab.
If he’s right, we’re looking at the first real steps toward bending space-time, no dilithium crystals required.
As far as I know, the first use of the phrase "warp drive" occurred in The Tides of Time by R.M. Williams, published in Thrilling Wonder Stories in 1940:
“Mr. Dorn!” the captain shouted. “We went through! There’s a world over there — a sun, lots of suns, planets, everything — ”
Between the planets of the doomed Solar System, detailed plans for the construction of the Gundstetter-Halone warp drive were flowing. He could not see it. But he knew that on all the planets, workshops were springing to furious activity as the construction plans came through.
