"This is a predictive tool I've used: There are goals we've sought for ten thousand years, and we'll go on seeking them. Instant transport and travel, immortality (or at least longevity and miracle cures.), instant learning …"
- Larry Niven

Time Line
Time seen linearly, as a distinguishable series of events.

As far as I know, this is the earliest instance of this phrase.

“Recently, Lee — commencing I believe about four months ago, our liners began to disappear — and all our efforts to locate them or the passengers and crew have completely failed! There are only two alternatives to be admitted. Either those liners have been turned aside from the time line by some colossal and unsuspected power, or else they have been flung beyond the Limited Stop — the year Ten Million and Two Thousand. If that be so, if the latter is the case, those liners are marooned in far futurity and lost!”
