Reggie the Bartending Machine
A mechanism able to mix drinks; a robot bartender. (Read
the full article)
"I'll be damned if I know whether Reggie walks or rolls. In 600 manuscript pages I don't think I ever brought him out from behind the bar.

"Mike - you say he rolls:
"He's wrong."
It was a voice no one had ever heard before.
"Who said that?" I demanded.
Reggie, my robot bartender, rolled over to me. "I did, Tomahawk."
"You?" I exclaimed. "I didn't know you could talk."
"I've always been able to," said Reggie.

"If I said it, then he rolls. That was one sentence 14 novels and maybe 30 stories ago; you'll have to forgive me for not remembering.
I do have some robots who are
main characters -- Saammy in the Hugo-nominated "Robots Don't Dry"; and the basketball center in "The Big Guy", which will be reprinted in THE BEST OF JIM BAEN'S UNIVERSE #2.
But by and large, I prefer people.
