"Presumably, the purpose is to make food. Thus the name "food factory." ;-) I figure that this is one of the easier ideas to make workable. Catch comet or KBO, thaw ice into component gasses like CO2 and ammonia (for plants), as well as liquid water, oxygen and whatever, separate out the poisonous crap like the heavy metals, cyanogen and CO- and save that for something else, then add bacteria and algae to the goop you've got left to process it. You can use the algae, yeast, bacteria or whatever for food directly, or just to break the organic stuff down to mix with pulverized asteroid rock to make enough fertile soil to cover the inside of a spinning cylindrical orbital greenhouse, then grow whatever you want with solar lamps. "
