Comments on Starfish Robot Stretching Video
A short video showing the Starfish robot, one of my faves, stretching and getting ready to walk. (Read the complete story)

"Real awesome... and also creepy!"
(LanderX 9/1/2007 9:29:28 AM)
"Real Scary - PLEASE DON'T MAKE THE TERMINATOR HAPPEN!!"
(Russell 9/1/2007 10:53:44 AM)
"Why not add rubberized foot pads to give it traction on surfaces?"
( 9/1/2007 11:41:11 AM)
"Please don't make the robot sad. Put its foot back on."
(Robots_Have_Feelings 9/1/2007 4:58:29 PM)
"It seems to me as though it would be easier if the robot were in a configuration that walks more easily than a 4-armed starfish, especially when damaged. That looked very awkward, even though it is clearly a great advancement. I simply think that the system might have done better with a hardware configuration that is easier to move."
( 9/1/2007 5:46:28 PM)
"How much processing power does it take to generate/test/refine new gaits? Do you have a starfish that can try out new gaits and test them itself? "
(Mike S 9/2/2007 1:01:35 AM)
"OMG, the dragoons have arrived! Call in the siege tanks!"
(They Are Here 9/2/2007 3:22:29 AM)
"Neat, but check out our four-student no-budget project which achieved the same result already in 2002 just by genetic programming, which also featured a dynamic simulation, 3d-visualization and network-parallelization: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KaVJpN-OsU4 http://sourceforge.net/projects/sigel"
(tabmasterispell 9/2/2007 5:32:02 AM)
"I, for one, welcome our new robotic starfish overlords."
(Michael 9/2/2007 7:14:02 AM)
"(Robots_Have_Feelings: I feel the same way; it's interesting how robots that are in some way biomimetic arouse our sympathy."
(Bill Christensen 9/2/2007 3:59:12 PM)
