Comments on Fortress World Barbarism Via Climate Change
Sudden changes in the desirability of land are never a good sign; how will we adapt? (Read the complete story)

"When was the last time you flew over the U.S.? Did you look out the window? The amount of land occupied by people is tiny. This is just propaganda by the believers in the great carbon fraud. "
(Rational 5/27/2008 11:06:54 AM)
""Rational", try flying over some other countries. You'll be surprised how the rest of us live. I've lived in Israel all my life but flying over coming from the west I can't tell where one city stops and the next one starts. From the coast all the way to the 1967 border are Tel aviv;Ramat gan;Bnei brak; Petah tikva ... Population density in the US: 31 per km^2. Poeple's republic of China: 140 Israel and Japan: 327 and 341 !!! So stretch your legs while you still have room ... BTW I'm looking for an investor to help open Israel's first capsule hotel ;-)"
(Yossi Preminger 5/27/2008 1:32:17 PM)
"Rational - the last time I flew over the US on the way to the West Coast, I marveled - as I often do - at how much of the US is absolutely unusable. Have you ever driven from Los Angeles to Las Vegas? Or from Tucson to Yosemite? The US is big, but there is only just so much room for people to live. Add the fact that we'll need to use arable land for farming, and you start to get the picture."
(Bill Christensen 5/27/2008 4:31:22 PM)
"Don't forget the Jetsons."
(Zac Hunter 5/27/2008 5:18:02 PM)
"Don't forget the Stargate episode where a civilization was holding it's workers underground working to keep energy reserves for the above living citizens, which lived in luxury, while the workers had never even seen the sun."
(StarGate 5/28/2008 11:47:30 AM)
"I would have to agree with Yossi on this one. The "Chicagoland" area by definition has the main city, surrounded by suburbs. But driving in any direction takes hours to come to green streches for farming. Going from Chicago to Milwaukee, the state border would be non-existant if there were no sign saying so. It's one big urban area from around Joliet in IL to Port Washington in WI. And it's still spralling outwards. Speed of growth depending on the US economy."
(Joseph A Nickence 5/30/2008 8:50:12 AM)
"I tell you what: suppose all the global warming skeptics put their money together and offer to purchase any coastal real estate owned by a global warming alarmist, offering 1% of its current market value, with the contracted date for the transference of possession as January 1, 2100. Then the alarmists on the coasts who believe their property will become valueless will get something-for-nothing, since they believe the land will be underwater by then anyway. And the skeptics will get something-for-almost-nothing, since they believe the land will be perfectly usable in 2100. So everyone is happy for now, and in the outcome, whoever's right will still be happy -- which is as it should be. Right?"
(Mark 5/30/2008 3:44:48 PM)
"The inhabited area likely to be covered by rising seas is significant but not enormous ... the gist of this article seems to be that rich people and corporate investors will end up with the best land, and poor folks will be at their mercy ... which is already true now."
