Comments on Springtail EFV-4B Personal Air Vehicle From Trek Aerospace
The Springtail EFV-4B Personal Air Vehicle (PAV) is a fourth-generation vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) craft powered by a single engine. (Read

"Infelizmente, este é somente um protótipo. Não é para a venda."

"One small problem: the designers say safety will be ensured by "zero defect manufacturing" rather than by such cumbersome means as a backup engine. Having worked in industry, I've seen what "zero defect manufacturing" translates to in actual products, and I wouldn't care to trust my life to it."

"Bob-
I've looked at a few more of the pictures, and I don't see any signs of a parachute, either. "Zero defect manufacturing" sounds a little like "we'll avoid mistakes by being error-free." You can bet that phrase was written by someone in sales; I can't believe an engineer would say it."

"de verdad impresionante, me gustaria pilotearlo..."

"If they could sell this THING for around $50,000.00 and it's performance parimeters were correct I'd buy it in a heartbeat."

"Being a helicopter pilot and also a hang glider/ultralight pilot, if you have an engine failure below the H/V curve(height/velocity) you are SCREWED :-) \\*// Even the rocket deployed parachutes have need ~100' to extend not to mention, inflate, plus typically there is an swing factor with the lanyard which increases the effective altitude. Say you are just transitioning from hovering to 30mph @50' and poof no engine, you might get the chute out but you would swing below it and hit the ground at velocity. Also they need to put a frontal protection cage to protect the operator, since if the skids catch at any speed at all you will do a face-plant(ouch). spamzilla@hotmail.com"

"The idea behind this project is phenomenal yet lacks thorough thought processing. Christian has the greatest valid points as far as catastrophic failure. But heree are some more concerns. Operator stupidity as well as engineering stupidity. Making something and putting it in the hands of someone who has NO idea of how it works and wants to go have fun with it could send your company into a downward spiral with devastating effects. In my opinion the size of it is too small as well as the weight to give it an overall balance under any condition. The mass weight should be moved to the bottom to reduce swing effect. There should be a hydraulically controlled separation between the person and the machine. Also panel flaps that would deploy to keep the top side from being the bottom. Then there is the problem of the ELEMENTS. As far as I know there aren't any goggles that have wipers built into them, and having warn them through rain and snow I know for a Fact that they are hard to see through while not being able to whipe off because you can't let go of the controls. Unless you can only use it on a sunny day where the possibility of bird poop is at a minimum. Speaking of birds, I would think that hitting one at about ninety miles an hour would leave a pretty nasty mark on ones body.
If you are in fact building for the future, take a look at the Jetsons "car" then replace any fantasy Items with real world based items. You have the technology. It just seems to me that you lack foresight. I Do Not have a pilots license or a degree in engineering, yet I can come up with so many flaws within your concept that you would be amazed. "
