| "Based on Internet research (ahem) it appears that there are at least 8 species that fall under the category of Asian carp. At least one species has been here since 1831. Silver carp grow to 40 pounds; they can jump 8-10 feet out of the water. They are easily startled and have caused innumerable injuries to boaters. Silver carp are also filter-feeders, removing nutrients from the water and are useless for fishing. They outcompete native species.
