Comments on Surgical Robot Bores Into Brain Like Wasp
Let's hope DARPA doesn't get interested in these brain-boring robots. Not that I'm paranoid. (Read the complete story)

"You might also be interested in this recent biomimetic device. The RoboClam 'smart anchor' is a prototype device that claims a real-life biological ancestor; the humble razor clam.

"Seeing how you consider nature to be the finest science fiction writer, add Nature as an author so we can search for ideas inspired by Nature. Either that or add a Biomimetics category. I say both !"
(Yossi Preminger 1/22/2009 1:17:31 AM)
"What I really need to do is implement tags on my site; I'm working on it."
(Bill Christensen 1/22/2009 5:37:56 PM)
"I found another reference to the idea of a robot surgical device that bores its own way in; see this excerpt from Philip K. Dick's 1966 novel Now Wait For Last Year - the surgical homeostatic unit."
(Bill Christensen 2/1/2009 2:00:20 PM)
"It instantly reminded me of the "Cerebral Bore" from the FPS game "Turok 2: Seeds of Evil". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Turok_2#Gameplay It's a weapon that shoots homing missiles at your enemies' cerebral cortex where upon they will drill past the Cerebrospinal fluid and explode. Definitely both evil and gross. It was inspired by the Tall Man's weapons from the movie "Phantasm". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantasm_(film)"
(Russell 2/8/2009 6:31:54 PM)
"Russel, here is a short video showing the Cerebral Bore from Turok 2.

Here's the movie poster from Phantasm; I'm guessing that this is the bore weapon you're referring to. I've never seen the movie.
