Comments on 'Smart Dust' Spacecraft Swarm Saves Earth?
Smart dust tells us when to duck. The only trick - getting them to one of the Lagrange points. (Read the complete story)

"Grooved so that the solar wind keeps the orientation sunwards, wouldn't that same wind blow these sats out of position? How far can something that small transmit, less than a mile IMO which would require hundreds of thousands of them just to relay the data to Earth. I can also see cosmic radiation being a problem for the "chip", shielding would be the answer but at what cost to size and weight?"

"Don't forget the combined Vl'hurg and G'Gugvuntt invasion fleet swallowed by a dog in The Hitchhikers Guide. "For thousands more years the mighty ships tore across the empty wastes of space and finally dived screaming on to the first planet they came across — which happened to be the Earth — where due to a terrible miscalculation of scale the entire battle fleet was accidentally swallowed by a small dog.""

"Didn't the remake of "The Day the Earth Stood Still" with Keanu Reaves use smart dust to wreak havoc on Earth?"
