Moscow Attacked By Hundreds Of Drones
On May 17, 2026, Ukraine launched a drone attack involving hundreds of drones (the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed 556 drones were intercepted across various regions, with more getting through). Moscow and the surrounding Moscow Oblast were heavily targeted.

“Since 3am this morning, air defence forces have been repelling a large-scale UAV [unmanned aerial vehicle] attack on the capital region,” [Moscow’s regional governor, Andrei] Vorobyov said, adding that four people had also been wounded. India’s embassy in Moscow said one of its nationals was among the dead.In the capital itself, air defence systems intercepted more than 80 drones overnight, the city’s mayor, Sergei Sobyanin, posted on social media. Twelve people were wounded and “minor damage” was recorded where the debris fell, he said.

This kind of strike (and how to defend against it!) was predicted more than eighty years ago in Blood on the Sun by Hal K. Wells, published by Startling Stories in 1942:
There was a small black speck just beyond the sun’s disc. The speck became a smudge, then expanded to a small cloud.
