Comments on Drive To Musical Wege House On Musical Road
Wege House is a unique house built along a Lake Michigan beach. The core of the house consists of massive beams forty feet in length. They are the basis for the core musical instruments of the house - two long stringed instruments. When played, the l (Read

"Highway 238 is nearby. It has a couple of lanes that "sing." Depending on your tire tread and how fast you drive, different pitches are "played." It has a wide-open, breathless, ethereal howl quality I find just wonderful."

"I'm a Wege originally from Appleton WI but now I reside in Jackson Mississippi. This is really cool and creative...way to go!"

"I thought of the idea of a 'musical road' in like 1994, with grooves spaced differently for different pitches. The problem I see is that the song would have a strong echo when the rear tires hit the same grooves."

"Matt - could you plan the sequence so that the rear wheel contribution to the piece comes out as reverb?"
(Bill Christensen 6/25/2007 2:56:01 PM) |
"I suppose you could plan the song so that the rear tires hit the primary note just when (or just prior to when) the reverb starts. Then you have the problem of different distances between the front and rear tires. I'm thinking the reverb (at least if made to be smoothly falling off) would be overpowering. I think the volume of a given note hitting the rear tires is around 60% of it hitting the front tires (I've hit a few 'rumble strips'..). And you'd have to calculate the best speed to travel to get a good interval between reverbs."
