Comments on Liftport Closer To Space Elevator Goal
Liftport Group has moved closer to making a working space elevator this past week. (Read the complete story)

"Why use elevaters? Make them climb they will stay fit."
(Pheonix 9/20/2005 12:04:52 PM)
"DANGER! DANGER! WILL ROBENSON! stupid idea guys what if the line snaped hhhmmmm!"
(bob diaz 9/20/2005 9:26:49 PM)
"I have found this subject interesting over the years, the thought of an end station obiting around the world in perfect location, I wounder if this device or end station would require power extered to lift it away from the earth as a heavy load was brough up, this must be no? Myabe it would be possible to rotate the device which is in space in such a way to resist any force appon it,IE pulling it down to the earth, kind of like a gyroscope, what do you guys think?"
(nigel 9/28/2005 2:58:16 AM)
"I would think that this device would generate huge amounts of static electricity. "
(rj 10/6/2005 7:15:15 AM)
"You have the cable extend past GEO and attach a weight to it. That way, the rotation of the Earth pulls on the cable. Any weight added will result in a very, very slight decrease in the rotational speed of the Earth."
(jmk 11/27/2005 6:09:13 PM)
"First of all, there is no friction in space, and a cable would give far before the rotation of the earth would be affected. In order to affect the rotation there must be leverage applied . Any leverage applied to an end station would simply drag the station into a lower orbit until it burned up."
( 12/22/2005 1:10:24 PM)
"nice project - with out going all the to space here on earth the opposing chain counters the weight lifting the car. how much do you think this would be for your elevator?"
(nobody special 1/9/2006 8:35:53 PM)
"The forces that hold an object in orbit are balanced - like a skater on ice. This logic of thinking - does not take into account that any force or weight of a cable or practical payload will change these forces. so the whole thing will move toward these forces or weght. The whole thing will fall down!"
