SpaceX Spacesuit Design Transmitted By Elon Musk
Take a look at the spacesuit design that Elon Musk Instagrammed (if that's a word) on behalf of SpaceX.
(SpaceX spacesuit, as Instagrammed by Musk)
Not much in the way of details available via the Instagram platform:
“Was incredibly hard to balance aesthetics and function,” Elon Musk’s Instagram post said. “Easy to do either separately.”
As far as I know, the phrase "space suit" was first used by Nat Schachner and Leo Zagat in their 1931 classic The Emperor of the Stars; see the article for space suit.
Of course, you'll find earlier references to the idea - and illustrations, too, if you want. Take a look at the air-tight dress (where "dress" refers to "manner of dress" or clothing) from The Conquest of Mars (1898) by Garrett P. Serviss.
SF writers had lots of fun with the design of space suits over the years; take a look at the cylinder space suit from Island in the Sky (1952) by Arthur C. Clarke, the space bubble from The Planet Strappers (1961) by Raymond Z. Gallun and the Osprey space armor from Salvage in Space (1933) by Jack Williamson.
Winchell Chung has loads of pictures of science fictional and real space suits over at Atomic Rockets - see Spacesuits.
