A self-charging, proprietary nano diamond battery (NDB) that provides up to thousands of years of charge? Now, that's a cellphone battery I can live with, even though it's powered by nuclear waste.

I'm immediately reminded of the Shipstone from Friday, a 1982 novel by Robert Heinlein. However, I'd also mention the Pocket Nucleo-Bulb from Foundation published in the 1940's by Isaac Asimov:
Wienis burst into his chambers, the five guardsmen at his heels. Lepold followed, wide-eyed, scared speechless."Hardin," said Wienis, huskily, "you are playing with forces too great for you."
The mayor ignored the speaker. In the pearly light of the pocket nucleo-bulb at his side, he remained quietly seated, a slightly ironic smile on his face.
I think the "nucleo" part was added when the story was published in book form in the 1950's.
