The brilliant researcher Tokita Kohsaku (voiced by Toru Furuya) creates the DC Mini, a device that resembles a bluetooth cellphone earpiece. The device allows psychotherapists to actually enter the dreamworld of their patients.
I don't want to give away too much of the plot of this excellent film; let's just say that when several of the DC Minis go missing, the DC Mini can be used in ways that its creator never imagined.
Roger Zelazny anticipated this idea in his 1966 novel The Dream Master; see the entry for the dream console.
